The Walk of Champions
Commemorative Marker Program
A Way to Honor Great Dogs on the Bird Dog Foundation Grounds |
| |
| Walk of Champions allows the
foundation’s many patrons to memorialize their favorite dogs, be they simple
hunting companions or perhaps renowned field champions. The project will
include all breeds, and we have a beautiful area designed with room for
expansion as the program grows. |
| |
|
| This unique program enables a field
trialer, hunter, or dog fan to commemorate their special four-legged
companions on the grounds of the Bird Dog Foundation with a gray granite
marker resembling a headstone. Once
purchased, the marker will be erected along a
specially designed walkway leading to the BDF outdoor memorial and
meditation area on the east lawn of the main building in Grand Junction. No
dogs will be laid to rest on the BDF grounds, but the marker will remain as
a permanent memorial to a favorite companion or canine competitor.

| After a couple of years
in planning, the BDF Executive Committee has unveiled a unique program
set up to enable all sporting dog fans to commemorate their special
four-legged companions on the grounds of the Bird Dog Foundation. BDF
Vice-President, David Fletcher, of Morrice, Michigan, has spearheaded
the project. Said Fletcher, “We think this is an appropriate way to
allow our foundation’s many patrons across the country to memorialize
favorite dogs, be they simple hunting companions or perhaps renowned
field champions. The project will include all breeds, and we have a
beautiful area designed with room for expansion as the program grows. I
hope folks will look at the markers already completed and begin planning
in earnest to include their dog, or dogs even. I mean, if you’ve spent
ten or twelve years following a special dog, what better way to
memorialize that faithful friend than to place a memorial on the
hallowed grounds of the National Bird Dog Museum?” |

The attractive markers will
be made in Georgia granite, flat design 20” X 10” X 5”. Cost
will be $1400 each and the proceeds will be ear-marked to the BDF
Endowment Fund. Thirty appropriately sized and highlighted
engraved letters or characters are included in the initial price, but
added characters are $3.00 each. Wording will be limited to name,
accomplishment, birth/death year, and owner/handler. All payments
should be to The Bird Dog Foundation; processing time after payment is
received will take about six weeks. Placement is at no added
cost and special ceremonies will be allowed.
