Progress Continues - Exhibits Flourish
After the
ribbon-cutting and gala associated with the grand opening of the new sporting
dog wing on Feb. 12, 2012, several of the associated dog breed groups
immediately made plans for occupying the new space. The German Shorthaired
Pointer working group, led by Hayley Killam, met at the facility in June, staged
some exhibit material (see photo), and laid groundwork for enhancing the GSP
area. Close on the heels of the GSP folks, came the Brittany contingent some
weeks later. Chaired by Rick Smith, the group spent two days moving exhibits,
plus Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame memorabilia. The group’s overall exhibit
space is now 65% complete (see photo). Just prior to July 1, the Red Setter
fans, composed of Don and Linda Beauchamp, plus Deb and Allen Fazenbacker,
hauled lovely glassed, lighted, wooden showcases all the way from Pennsylvania.
Now chock full of historical material, the showcases grace the main entrance of
the new wing (see photo). With the arrival of Mike and Brenda Garriott, the
North American Versatile Hunting Dog Assoc. (NAVHDA) took occupation of a
designated space in August with (see photo). NAVHDA represents a bevy of
sporting dog breeds often referred to as the “Continental Breeds.” The 6,000 sq.
ft. wing is now open to visitation. New material continues to arrive. Thanks to
a grant from Purina, a welcome amenity in the form of wireless internet has been
added to the new wing. This will allow multiple enhancements and interactive
displays. More photos of construction and progress can be viewed by visiting
