Ribbon Cutting Showcases New “Sporting Dog Wing”

Field trial fans from all over the country descended upon the small town of Grand Junction, Tennessee on Feb. 11, 2012. Excitement was in the air as friends and competitors reunited to honor the latest inductees into the Field Trial Hall of Fame at the Bird Dog Foundation facility. A cluster of stellar honorees made up the 2012 class of inductees, representing distinguished people and outstanding dogs.

After a sumptuous luncheon provided courtesy of Purina, the crowd gathered for the official ribbon cutting for the BDF’s newest addition, the 6,000 sq. ft. Sporting Dog Wing. Remarks were presented by state and local leaders, and then the scissors, manned by out going BDF President, Dale Bush, opened the new wing to applause from the crowd. The venue features modern exhibit space related to ten different sporting breeds. Donors from around the country did fundraising efforts over the past three years to create a $500,000 construction fund. Plaques were awarded by the BDF President, Dale Bush, to those who made significant contributions towards building the new wing, which include Hayley Killam of Laredo, Texas. Ms. Killam had agreed to take on the task of spearheading the overall fundraising effort along with her husband, David, who are both devoted German Shorthair field trialers on the major circuit. Ground was broken in July of 2011 and construction progressed ahead of schedule. Grinder-Haizlip Construction Company of Memphis, TN performed the construction. Some 300 attendees took part in the day-long activities. For more photos and related information, visit www.birddogfoundation.shutterfly.com.
